What an exciting first week of the year it was in West Vincent Township. First, the required annual re-organization meeting happened the first Monday of January.

To keep this newsletter short, here are some of the highlights of the January 5, 2015 West Vincent Township Re-Org meeting :
Freshman Supervisor John Jacobs voted against two of the three motions for appointments. Was it because he didn't approve of some of the appointments? Perhaps Ken Miller and David Brown made all of the appointments without asking if John Jacobs had any recommendations? Maybe Supervisor Jacobs made recommendations and the Miller/Brown team wouldn't entertain those suggestions? Perhaps another reason? Whatever the reason, it appears Mr. Jacobs has not problem standing up for what he believes is right. Good for him.
The Supervisors decided that one of the Zoning Hearing Board members should not be re-appointed to the Zoning Hearing Board. She didn't agree with that decision. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TRtO2_3WaU
The re-appointment of Township Manager James Wendelgass was challenged by someone in the audience. A right-to-know request was filed some time ago asking if the Manager had certain items in place as required by the manager's job description. According to the Township's right-to-know response, written by the Right to Know Records Officer (Jim Wendelgass), the Township Manager (Jim Wendelgass) has NEVER completed those REQUIRED items. Be sure to watch as someone barges into the meeting 8 minutes late after banging on the meeting room side door. He offers no apology to the Supervisors or the audience for the interruption.
Supervisor John Jacobs made sure that there will be public workshops scheduled this year for the Township budget, a first for West Vincent. He also reminded the Board that meetings need to be scheduled for the design of a five year plan for the township. If this had been skipped, it would have cost the township to advertise these public meetings (as required by law) separately, saving the Township hundreds of dollars in fees.
Township Manager James Wendelgass received his increase in salary. Here is an interesting item that came to light. Mr. Wendelgass has had no review for his raise. None. No review whatsoever. Supervisor John Jacobs agreed to the raise ONLY if a review was conducted. Ken Miller agreed with the suggestion. Careful scrutiny of the video shows that Brown says nothing at all! I wonder if Mr. Wendelgass has ever had a review in the decade he has worked for the Township? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LhDbeL7R7s
All non-union (you do realize the West Vincent Township has a union, don't you?) employees received a 3% raise. I wonder if any of the employees have had an annual review?
Consider this: After 3 years, at the beginning of 2015, the Federal Government gave a 1% increase. Chester County has awarded a 2% increase after a pay freeze for two years. http://www.dailylocal.com/article/DL/20130315/NEWS01/130319692

In West Vincent Township, apparently there is more money than the Administration knows what to do with. Certainly more than the 1.7% cost of Living rate the Federal government has established. Don't worry, it's your money being given away......without review.
